Citronella Oil (Assam, Java)

Citronella Oil is one of the essential oil found heavily in Assam State area of India. The major species is Cymbopogon which similar to Lemongrass oil and Palmarosa Oil. The Citronella Oil is extensively as a source of perfumery chemicals like Citronellal, Citronellol and Geraniol. These isolates (molecules of citronella) are highly used in tobacco, perfumery and cosmetic industry.
Citronella is also a recognized plant-based insect repellent, and has been registered for this use in the United States since 1948. Environmental Protection Industry now considered as a bio-pesticide with a non-toxic made of action. The Citronella also has antifungal properties, and is effective in calming barking dogs.
Like the lemon grass plant it has lemon-scented leaves. Citronella has long had a reputation in folk medicine as a bug repellent for deterring various insects including midges. Today you can buy all sorts of products made with oil of citronella including lotions and candles. If you’re a pet lover you can even buy a dog collar that gives out a citronella spray, although these are usually sold as anti-bark collars rather than as midge deterrents!
